Harbor Storm 2001

Report

by Bruce A. Meyer

Harbor Storm 2001 was held in Gig Harbor, WA Feb. 17-18 2001. This was a tournament using WRG's DeBellis Multitudinous (DBM) Ancient Rules.

The final standings were:

We had players from Canada, Washington, Oregon, California and N. Carolina. Thankfully Thursday's snow storm mostly washed away by Saturday morning.

Games were 4 hours in length. There were only three 5-5 ties. Kevin, the current consensus West Coast Champion, came out on top by trashing his opponents and avoiding that one catastrophic round that seemed to plague everyone. There was a decided lack of knights though the Parthians tried to make up for that by fielding the max. Lots & lots of Bow and Light Horse. Scott Dickson got the comeback award for scoring 16 points on day 2 after gaining none on day 1. He played the Samurai as blade the first day and switched to the bow list for day 2. Still a lot of 2.1 vs. 3.0 kinks to be worked out by the players. The breadth of armies that people are willing to play in a competition seems greater under 3.0. Kudos to Steve for suffering the slings and arrows of being a new player surrounded by wolves.

Thanks to NHMGS, the tournament advertisement brought several people in for a look and hopefully we sparked their interest. Thanks also to Scott Dickson, Treasurer of NASAMW, for coming in from N. Carolina and providing tee shirts for the players.

Everyone enjoyed the two days and the only question to be answered is the dates for Harbor Storm 2002.

The next DBM event on the docket is a one day tournament on the Saturday of Enfilade!. The Tournament will be a mini (200 point) Theme using book #2 armies. Details to follow in the Enfilade! Announcement.
