Conventions

by Mark Serafin

We are all getting ready for Enfilade!, which is on the first weekend in June this year. Enclosed in this issue are the pre-registration and event forms. Please copy them (or rip them out of this magazine - you won't lose any content), complete them, and send them in. The convention is closer than you think, and there is no time to waste. Successful conventions require both people putting on games and players, so sign up to do both soon!

This turned out to be a very full issue of the Citadel, with a variety of submissions from all over. My thanks to all the contributors, but particularly to Dave Schueler, whose submissions pretty much carried me through the last year. I can only hope that his articles will continue to grace the pages of this august publication. Especially since his articles are always about planes or boats, pictures of which are generally pretty easy to come by!

A while ago we had a couple of articles remembering members who had died. It is my sad duty to add to the list. My good friend Bob Winters, of Missoula, passed on at the end of January, victim of a very aggressive lymphoma. While not many of you knew him, he was my best friend and gaming buddy since college. He sparked my interest in both the American and English Civil Wars. He was a true gentleman gamer, in the mold of our own Bill Stewart (if you don't know Bill, you should). Quick to laugh at my twisted sense of humor and polite enough to always leave his opponent an open flank to turn. He will be greatly missed.

From what I've heard, Salute was a smashing success, larger and better-attended than ever. To find out how great a success, read Kelly Jones' article on page 19. While I regret that I couldn't to attend, I would like to extend my congratulations to the Trumpeter group (www.trumpeterclub.com) for running such a successful operation. Next year, I'm making it a point to be there.

Photos from Salute (courtesy of Dick Larsen) are available to members of the NHMGS group at Yahoo (groups.yahoo.com). Members with access to the Internet should consider joining the NHMGS group, which is for "sharing news, events, and general discussion between members." Besides, it's free.

Finally, an administrative note: I am changing my Internet provider, so my e-mail address will be changing to mserafin@whidbey.com. I am hoping to have this change effective by the end of April. Please change your kill files to reflect this.
