Words From the New President

NHMGS 2000

by Norris Hazleton

With regards to the game day at the Museum of Flight (MoF), we are moving along splendidly. We need to encourage all our members, friends, acquaintances, families, shirt-tail relatives, and anyone else we see in a hobby shop to attend. I do not recall visiting the MoF and am looking forward to seeing the displays.

Remember that we are paying $9.50 to visit the MoF and see the displays. As an added bonus, there will be historical miniatures games and demonstrations. Don't look at this as having to pay $9.50 to play games. We are going there to enjoy the displays and to have an opportunity to put our hobby on display in a high-profile public forum. Other hobbies would kill for such an opportunity, we need to make the most of it.

Some say we just play with toy soldiers. That's wrong! In this hobby we are historians, artists, scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and architects. And, one other attribute I admire most, we are generous. I know people who give figures, paints, brushes, and books to others who cannot afford such things. We are generous with our time and research. At our very best we help one another. This is a moment when your help is needed.

We have an opportunity to demonstrate that we are far more than people who play with toy soldiers. We all know of opportunities lost in history, fleeting moments when action would have reaped great rewards. Some of our members have worked very hard to bring us to this point, where action on our part can reap a great reward. at Let's not allow this moment to pass. So let's get the word out, go there and support our friends and our hobby.
