The Trumpeters Wargame group in Vancouver, B. C. are to be congratulated for their excellent job at Salute '97. The convention was held March 14, 15 and 16 at the Bonsor Recreation Center in Burnaby. There were about 12 tables set up for both historical and fantasy/sci-fi gaming over the 3 day convention. Historical games seemed to be in the majority, ranging from ancients to W.W. II. There were many gamers in attendance during the weekend. I was able to participate in a 1/72 scale Blue Max game that I greatly enjoyed. If one was into Napoleonics, either 15mm or 25mm, there were quite a few to choose from, and all were beautifully presented. There was plenty of ACW, especially a 15mm Stones River which deserves mentioning as it looked very nice and the Rebs won. There was a US Cavalry and Indian game where the cavalry were trying to re-supply a fort under Indian attack. This game was also beautifully presented and contained many little surprises. I was told that it was going to be at ENFILADE! this year. When you attend in May I highly recommend you play this game if you get a chance. There were local vendors at Salute '97 who had many books and rules available. I was able to pick up two new scenario books from the Canadian Wargames Group Drop Zone for W.W. II airborne operations and Whites of their Eyes for AWI games. I was glad to see that a few more of us from the States made the trip to Salute this year to support historical gaming, even if for only one day. If you can make the trip up to Salute next year I strongly suggest you do so, as you won't be disappointed.
