The Enfilade! Questionnaire Results

by Russ Bauder

The NWHMGS got responses to the ENFILADE! questionnaire from 26 individuals. The results are helping us to guide the next convention.

If you didn't respond we assumed that you are satisfied with the convention or are not planning to attend. An un-returned questionnaire weighed the same as a returned one. This meant that the ratings requested were given a value of three for each non- response.

1. What weekend would you prefer to attend ENFILADE?

Date: Rating: Note

    May 3 & 4,1997 3.08
    May 10 & 11, 1997 2.85 (Mother's Day Weekend)
May 17 & 18,1997 3.08 (Armed Forces Day), (Victoria Day Weekend in Canada)
    May 24 & 26,1997 3.03 (Memorial Day Weekend)
    May 31 & June 1, 1997 3.05
    June 7 & 8,1997 3.02

As a result, we will never have the event on Mother's Day. You're all such good boys! Other dates suggested include: the last weekend in April, before Summer, and President's Day Weekend.

2. Which of these ENFILADE! features are important to you?

    Lectures & Demonstrations 3.08
    Individual Swap Tables 3.23
    Painting Competition 3.17
    Special Guest 3.10
    Painted Miniatures Auction 3.12

As a result, we will endeavor to always have swap tables and never, never, never have the Saturday Night Dinner again. (Whew!)

3. Which of these additions would you make to ENFILADE?

    Friday Night Gaming3.16
    Friday Night Social Gathering 3.10

Other additions suggested include: introductory games, post convention special events, all night gaming from Sat. to Sun., two sessions on Sunday, HMGS sponsored tournaments, Sat. Night Social in the Bar, and a silent auction.

As a result, we have added Friday Night Gaming and will end the convention at 6 PM on Sunday.

    Convention Center (Separate hotels) 2.97

Other sites suggested include: a high school gym, Seattle U. or other university. As a result, we will likely stay at Convention Hotels.

5. Would you attend a second miniatures convention in the Seattle area? Please note that the NWHMGS supports the following convention schedule:

ENFILADE! in Seattle in May.
ADVENTURE GAME FEST in Portland in Oct.
BREAKTHROUGH in November in Everett.
RADCON in the Tri-Cities in February.
SALUTE in Vancouver, BC in March.

    Maybe 19%
    No 23%

Other dates suggested included: July, January (3), February (3), December, anytime, Fall (2), October, August, Winter, November, September. Other people asked that another convention not be held in, August (2), September, October, or November. Two people suggested supporting Dragonflight in Seattle in August.

6. What would you like to see changed about ENFILADE?

Responses to this question included: shorter games (2 hrs. max.), rewards or benefits to those who put on games or help out (2), more trash barrels and cleaner game areas, more dealers, one big room, all people with gray hair should get in free, award ceremony on Saturday night, move convention to Tacoma area, more food at the dinner, award for scenery, dinner is too disruptive (2), no guest speakers, no painting competition, outdoor area for social gathering, more games for younger audiences, including fantasy, open gaming areas (3), more historical periods, Sunday Buffet, naval competition games, advertise to attract the public, make contact numbers better known, and limited swap table time, so that sellers may play.
We also received three "Good Job" comments.
As a result , we will have open gaming tables, look at new convention locations periodically, encourage event diversity, and advertise more.
To encourage a response NWHMGS offered a fabulous prize package for one lucky respondent. All members returning a questionnaire were in a drawing for a free membership renewal, ENFILADE! '97 admission and an ENFILADE! '97 T- shirt. This is a $30 dollar value. The winner was Paul Hannah of Seattle.
