This is the second of three articles about a Napoleonic miniatures campaign of the boardgame 1809 by the Avalon Hill game company. The first article provided a brief synopsis of the rules governing the campaign. This article provides the forces for the campaign. The forces are organized as they were at the start of the campaign on April 9, 1809, when Austria attacked Bavaria. These forces were developed from information contained in the boardgame, as well as from order of battles contained in the book Armies On The Danube, 1809 by Scott Bowden and Charles Tarbox. The reinforcements are listed by their date of entry into the campaign theater. The game maphex, as well as a place name have been given for the point of setup or arrival (the place names will be useful to those who do not have a copy of the game). The leader names are in parentheses. The leader names in some cases have been changed to match the counters provided in the 1809 boardgame. The unit strength has been rounded to the nearest thousand. Unless otherwise listed, French forces are composed of French units, and Austrian forces are either Austrian or Hungarian. In some cases the type of infantry or cavalry has been generalized for simplicity. For instance, several French Line Infantry brigades contain 1/3 to 1/4 light infantry. The forces will be developed in the next article for playing the campaign with Avalon Hill's miniatures rules system, Napoleon's Battles. Austrian Starting ForcesThe Army Commander (Archduke Charles) may start with any of groups 1, 2 or 3. 1. In maphex W4730, which is on the Austrian side of the Inn River, near the town of Obernberg: III Corps (Hohenzollern)
2nd Div. (St. Julien) - 12,000 Line Inf, 22 Guns 3rd Div. (Vukossovich) - 4,000 Jager hif., 2,000 Lt. Cav., 22 Guns Corps Artillery - 24 Guns V Corps (Louis) starts in maphex W4730 which is the same as the III Corps.

L Corps (Maximillian)
2nd Div. (Noyer) - 6,000 Landwehr Inf. 3rd Div. (Bock) - 7,000 Landwehr Inf. I have found no historical record of this Corps. Players may wish to use the Landwehr to replace losses from regular army units, as was done historically. Players will have to record what portion of a force is Landwehr and adjust combat and morale factors appropriately. They may also be used as garrisons or other detached forces. In maphex W4824, the city of Schaerding on the Austrian side of the Inn River: II Corps (part)

2nd Div. (Truenenfels) - 3,000 Line Inf, 8 Guns 3rd Div. (Klenau) - 4,000 Jager Inf., 2,000 Lt. Cav., 14 Guns Corps Artillery - 18 Guns May 9 or 10 In maphex C 1102, near the city of Budweis:
2nd Div. (C.Kinsky) - 6,000 Landwehr Inf. 3rd Div. (Schonthl) - 7,000 Landwehr Inf. 4th Div. (F.Kinsky) - 7,000 Landwehr Inf. I believe this force represents the large number of Landwehr that were incorporated into the regular army prior to the battle of Wagram. Players may wish to create a separate Landwehr corps as shown. However, it would be more historically accurate to insert these units into under-strength divisions of other corps. Unused strength points may be formed into special units for garrison duty or other detached service, or as auxiliary troops in a Reserve Corps. June 24 or 25 At the east end of the map at the first minor road north of the Danube River: Army of Inner Austria (Archduke John)
2nd Div. (Mescery) - 5,000 Line Inf. , 12 Guns 3rd Div. (Davidovich) - 3,000 Line Inf, 8 Guns 4th Div. (Bezan) - 1,000 Lt. Cav., 6 Guns Army Reserve Artillery - 12 Guns This army may be considered a corps that would come under Charles' command when in range. Anytime
