Review: Fernando Enterprises

Sri Lanka Painting Service

by Scott Mingus, Sr.

The Johnny Reb Gaming Society has received a number of painted figures from Fernando Enterprises, a large volume, high quality painting service located in Sri Lanka. The owner, Sanath Fernando, has been professionally painting figures since 1994, with thousands of figures from nearly all periods. He employs a staff of 75 skilled artisans who use Da Vincy brushes and Daler Rowney colors to paint the figures after priming. The sample figures arrived well packaged in foam wrap, and the painting quality was superb and well detailed.

Order sizes are not limited, and the operation will accept any amount of unpainted lead. Turnaround time is typically 6-8 weeks, including air transit. Gainers may send their own figures to be painted, or can purchase pre-painted ones from Sanath, including Zinnfiguren's line of flats. Prices for 10 or 15mm Civil War figures are as follows:

Wargame quality: $0.50 foot / $1.00 cavalry (plus $0.05 per figure for matte varnishing if desired)

Collector quality with shading, detailing, and matter varnishing: $0.90 foot / $1.80 cavalry.

A showcase quality is also available on 25mm or larger figures, for an additional fee.
