Black Mountain Miniatures
Painting Service Review

by Scott Mingus, Sr.

Black Mountain Miniatures is a professional figure painting service located in Carson City, Nevada. The owner, Jeff Chierpeski, sent me a regiment of painted Old Glory 15mm Union volunteer infantry for review. Jeffs painting style is fluid and lifelike, with excellent coloration and good detail. Figures are highlighted and shaded. His choice of paints are quite good, and uniforms are accurately represented.

Jeff used a mixture of appropriate shades of paints from Vallejo, Winsor Newton, and occasionally Games Workshop. He uses brushes from the two former companies. He has painted thousands of miniatures.

If the customer provides the figures (any maker), Black Mountain Miniatures charges $1.00 per figure for foot and $1.85 for mounted figures. If BMM supplies the figures from their inventory, the price is slightly higher ($1.20 for foot, $2 for mounted). Lead times to paint a regiment of 20 figures is roughly 2 weeks, plus shipping time. A larger order of 100 figures will take about a month before shipment.

Jeff's Bio...

I have been painting for about 15 years. I started with military models in the 1/35 scale and moved into gaming scales (6mm, 15mm, and 25mm). I still dabble in the larger scales and enjoy painting 200mm busts and 120mm figures. I have been painting commission figures for about 4 years now and have painted in all scales, and in most eras from ancients to sci-fi. In the real world, I am a systems administrator and teach part-time. I have been married for 8 years and have 3 kids. If I find any spare time, I like to game with the local group.
