The Soap Box

by Bill Brierton

Dear Jay,
September 7, 1997

I found your last letter a bit infuriating and took some time to calm down before answering it. First, I would like some other member to become president of Dragonslayers Unlimited who can devote more time to it than I can. After all, I am forming my own small gaming company and l want to devote the limited free time I have to making it a successful business rather than a part-time hobby. Until and only then, when a member decides to become club president will I step down. There are at least two members who may be interested in becoming a club officer. I will be sending out self- nomination ballots at the beginning of next month to those members who are interested. I only hope they are really committed.

Second, Chain Mail is the official newszine of Dragonslayers Unlimited and not Unicorn Pegasus Productions nor Renaissance Ink. Chain Mail is suppose to be made up of members articles where Unicorn Pegasus receives its articles from various other sources such as the internet. Thus to me it is somewhat a conflict of interest since I want to publish what I feel that is news worthy and not totally rely on members to submit articles.

When and if I receive the returns from this current send out, I will inform you as to who wishes to remain a club member and who would like a refund. If this return is any indication as the returns of the last ballots the club membership may be smaller, but I think the treasury will not be drained. As for any club property, you may hold on to it at this time, until I receive the returns. As I have stated before, I will let you know who is still interested in Dragonslayers Unlimited and who is not.

If I receive any ballots for newszine editor/treasurer, club president, I will send out the nomination forms to those remaining members and inform those who are the new club administration. At that time, you should send any remaining club material to your new replacement. Yes, there is at least one member who is interested in becoming newszine editor/treasurer. I can only hope he will be able to get members to submit articles and get Chain Mail back to it's original publication schedule.

If this letter seems a little harsh, you should of seen my reaction when l got your last letter. I was furious. This is the calmest I have been since I have answered your letter and consider the matter closed. I will assist the new administration as much as possible if they so request it.

Sincerely,

Bill Brierton, Acting Club President

To: All Members of Dragonslayers Unlimited
From: Bill Brienon, Acting Club President
Subject: Disbandment of the club
Date: September 1, 1997

As you all know, last month I sent out ballots to the membership to decide whether or not Dragonslayers Unlimited should be disbanded. As of this memo, l have 8 in favor, 8 against, even though the club has a membership of at least 40 people. To me the sixteen ballots I received do not indicate a clear majority of the membership.

So to avoid sending out another round of ballots I have a simple solution. Those members who wish to remain members of the club please fill out the attached form and send it back to my address. Where the club will go from this point on has yet to be seen but I do have some things in mind.

Those members who wish to leave the club please fill out the enclosed form with your name, current mailing address so a refund can be sent to you. Your refund will be based on the number of issue's of Chain Mail that the club owes to you.

In the past I had the problem of members not sending in ballots for voting, but this time I think the following sentence may get some response. If you do not return the form with your indication to stay or leave the club the remaining dues that is owed to you will become property of the club and it's remaining members. It only seems fair to me since most of the membership did not express their position on the ballots that were sent to them. Please return your form no later than September 30, 1997

Thank You in advance for you time and attention.

Sincerely,

Bill Brienon, Acting Club President
