Eternal Twilight

Poem

by Squire James Elmore

The wars that man makes
are just distractions.
His real problems still loom high
casting shadows on his existence.
But he can justify avoidance of them
through the "Evil" of other men.

And so we wage war.

Raping the earth, man conquers;
or tries to.
Himself.
Other men.
Nature.
Death.

His failure to do so
drives him, gives him purpose,
and pushes his insanity
to the brink of oblivion.

The "Wise Men" talk peace,
but they too, are incapable
of curing man's lust for death
to share his bed.

The "Holy Men" speak of eternal love
for all men.
But as one can not exist without the other,
Hatred too must be eternal.

The insanity of war
is his only salvation,
his only lover
his only friend.

It makes sense.

It is far easier to kill,
than to face reality
and embrace it,
to end the wars.

Man's Messiah is himself,

He is doom.
