This work is edited by Jeff Pimper and Steve Perrin and published by the Chaosium (White Bear & Red Moon, Elric, Troy...). The editors estimate there are at least 15,000 Dungeon Masters running games of Dungeons & Dragons, Tunnels & Trolls and similar role-playing fantasy games, and that every one of these has invented at least one new monster "to scare the gold-lust out of their players' characters." So they have compiled all the unique new monsters they could find among their acquaintances and present them here in encyclopedic form on a stack of 106 8 1/2" x 11". three-hole-punched pages. Each monster is listed alphabetically and described in terms of hit dice, armor class, move/fly/swim, IQ range, dexterity range, alignments, where found, number in lair/wandering, probability of treasure and type, attacks and physical description. In addition to these entries there is an introduction, and explanation on how to interpret the entries, an alphabetical index to the monsters, an index of the monsters by type (alien, animal, demon, etc.) an index of monsters by level (1 to 10), a Monster Level Table for determining monsters locations randomly, the Henderson monster Creation Table for inventing new monsters by the roll of dice for determining numerous characteristics and a Monster Catalog Coding Sheet for submitting your own pet monster for inclusion in a future volume. There are also a few line-drawing illustrations. There is also now an All the Worlds' Monsters Volume Two. This one consists of monsters gleaned from the pages of The Dungeoneer and Alarums & Excursions magazines and Dave Hargrave's Arduin Grimoire. It also contains an introduction, an article on adapting ATWM to use with Tunnels & Trolls by Ken St. Andre, the usual indexes, Perrin's "Conventions" for all those who want to know how the people who fight these monsters do so (detailed melee procedures), and a cumulative index to both volumes. Each volume sells for $8.00 and, like all Chaosium products, is available from Lowry Enterprises.
