Line of Communications

Editorial

by Don Lowry

Response to issue 66 has been very favorable. For one thing it drew a tremendous number of letters, a small fraction of which you'll find under Mail Call. It also drew about half-again the usual number of Return Fire questionaires. Sales, too, were well above average, and resubscriptions seemed to increase. All in all a hard act to follow. Here are the Return Fire ratings:

    The Yom Kippur War 8.00
    Six from Avalon Hill 7.17
    Issue #66 as a whole 7.13
    The East Is Red 6.77
    Thumbnail Analysis 6.11
    Line of Communications 6.00
    NATO Goes Nuts 5.71
    SINAI: A Critique 5.61
    The Seige Of Gondor 5.59
What I Don't Like About Critics of SPI 5.51
    Mail Call 5.45
    G2 Report 5.16

There are a number of noteworthy features here. For one thing, all articles are rated above average (5). For another, that is the highest overall rating any issue has ever received - the old record being #59's 6.93. But, of course, what really stands out is the highest rating ever received by an article in PF. The previous high was 7.77 for John Hill's "The Use of the Israeli Air Force". And for once, the voting for best three articles agreed with the 1-10 ratings:

Yom Kippur War - Clotfelter $5.00
Six From Avalon Hill - Lowry 3.00
The East is Red - Starks 2.00

You'll note that we are asking some "personal" questions on the Return Fire this time. This does not mean that we are trying to compete with the C.I.A., F.B.I. or I.R.S. We just want to compile some statistics for potential advertisers on "what kind of man (person?) reads PANZERFAUST". Note that your name does not appear anywhere on the Return Fire part of the wrapper and it will be separated by us from the order blank part immediately upon receipt -- if you haven't already done it yourself. We would greatly appreciate it if you would help us out with this project. We'll publish the results in a future issue - probably #69.
