Price Rise and Movement

by Richard Berg

Lots of changes …

First, the Bad News. For the first time since we started publication five years ago, we have to (well, not have to, but close enough) raise our subscription rates. The Usual Suspects here: we absorbed the first mail raise; the second (due shortly) is not so easily spongeable. And printing costs have gone up about a penny a page. That, alone, adds $1 to the cost of fulfilling a sub. Anyway, it's only a buck more … see the re-up notice (which half of you manage not to see each issue) for details.

We're also moving (or will have by the end of May). This means we'll be changing our Mailing Address (use the old one for now, until we get our new POB) and phones (starting June 1).

And something I've somehow managed not to mention over the last two or three years: we're on the Internet. Our main HQ is on AoL. To find us there, Keyword: Strategy; then go to the Strategy Game sections, check out the topics, and you'll find "Berg's Review of Games" right smartly (we're usually at the top of the list). It's quite a lively group … the most visited gaming site in the area, by far. Not for the faint of heart, by the way …. And if that's not enough for you, click onto the Internet via "www.manzana.com/webx" for John Kranz's massive and well-run wargame board. It's got everything … and lots of pics!

We've also enclosed a ballot for the Origins Awards. (I would have done same for The Charlies, but I lost it. Honestly.) Try to vote, folks. The more people who do, the more meaningful the awards. I will be MCing the actual presentations at Origins this year - complete with visuals and Special Guest Presenters! - but you'll need an invite (and some relatively acceptable clothing) to attend. That includes The Charlies, which now open the festivities. The Awards ceremony is undergoing a major overhaul, with the intent being to make it more Entertainment than simply a reciting of names. The GAMA folk are also lookling to make it "something special" … thus the "By Invitation Only" tag.

Another highlight of the upcoming Origins will be the BROG Review of the Year - no Invitation needed - to be held Saturday nite, prior to the Award Ceremony. Armor optional.

Finally, congratulations to BROG subscriber, Nick Palmer. Nick, a familiar name to many old-timers, has just been elected Member of Parliament for the borough of Boxtowe (I think). Our insidious plans to take over the world are slowly coming to fruition. We've already got Robin Williams and Kurt Schilling … can The Newt be far behind?
