The Lord High Publisher's Song

Humor

by Richard Berg

from “The Pirates of Lancaster”, or “The Slave of Nostalgia”
(with very few apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan … or “The Mikado”)

As someday it must happen, and a sucker must be found
I've got a Little List, I bought the whole damn List
For “SPI” aficianados who have long been underground
And really weren't missed, they surely weren’t missed

For World War Two enthusiasts, a group we’ll sure indulge
There’s creaky stuff on Leningrad and lots of Parker Bulge
We’ve Agincourt and Alamo, two titles highly sought
And lots of stuff on modern wars that no one ever bought
And to ensure that fans of Nap and Zucker won’t be pissed
The Emperor’s on the list, with Quads we mostly dissed

With dollars grasped “en fist”
We bought the whole damn list
We emptied out Lorraine’s warehouse of junk that no one missed

We’ve Okinawa, Lille and Marne, Seelöwe and Leyte
El Alamein and Fox, a mighty box of rocks
Three big games on Stalingrad, and Minuteman… Wow! Hey!!
Now don’t that starch your socks! (I’d rather have the Pox.)

There’s Warfare in the West, the Ice, Pacific and the East
Who cares if they’re all out-of-date and everyone a beast
There’s Great War stuff that no one played, and sand from ole Sinai
There’s Titan Strike and other crap.
Who cares?
It’s SPI!

A passel of old Prados and leftover Joseph Bo
Who cares if its passée?
I got that great Logo!

I may be deep in hock, but always call me Doc
Because I’ve got the List
I just pray they’re all still missed.
