Nafziger Collection, 2000, $12.95, ISBN 1-58545-063-4, 32 pages (A Reprint of Official Documents) This reprint tells what went right and wrong in the opening US campaign in North Africa. It focuses somewhat on nuts and bolts of operations, for example, recons patrols should improve radio security, but also on general trends, such as armored divisions need to mass armor rather than distribute it evenly along the whole front, or the need for better training and more esprit de corps. Sections include: Infantry, Field Artillery, Armored, Tank Destroyer Units, Mine Warfare, and Defense Against Air Attacks. It's quite interesting to read about German Tactics in North Africa, and see some results appear in Lessons Learned. This 1943 booklet doesn't tell what the Americans did per se, but what they should have done. Ideally, this short piece should be tacked onto the end of an "American Tactics in North Africa" booklet. Maybe that could be the next Nafziger offering. Back to List of Book Reviews: World War II Back to Master List of Book Reviews Back to Master Magazine List © Copyright 2000 by Coalition Web, Inc.
