Book Review:

The Regiment

Varlik 681 Lormagen, up and coming journalist, gets sent to cover a distant war on an inhospitable planet. The local guerillas, all of whom are escaped slaves, give the local troops a bit too much run for the money, so High Command of the Confederacy contracts for a regiment or two of the T'Swa mercenaries to crush the rebels.

So begins Dalmas' tale of hit and run warfare. As he spins out the strategy and planning of various raids, his prose shows his own military service as an infantryman and medic. He offers vivid descriptions of jungle warfare and thankfully creates competent military officers.

The journey is imaginative, the fighting intense, and the book hums along to a conspiratorial ending. The Regiment is a good, quick read.
