All the Way to the Gallows brings a touch of humor to the usual military sci-fi drama of David Drake. Sadly, it is only a touch.

This collection of short stories offers a wide range of sci-fi and fantasy plots and settings, and the characters meander through them with fortitude, much what you'll need to get through the book. It isn't so much the ideas, which are mildly amusing, as it is the execution of this mild amusement.

And that's about it. It's not an awful book. But it's not a funny book, either.
