Greetings, gentlemen. Apparently, the Postal Service has upgraded their anti-mail defenses again. The complete and utter disappearance on two manilla envelopes stuffed with vital fan mail that were shipped to Wing Commander Webster on the Eastern front (Detroit) leads us to believe that the Postal fighters are either using new tactics or have new carrier weapons. Late last year we tried bulk rate mail, but the casualty rate of or newsletters was way too high. Once we upgraded our envelope ECM back to First Class, our journals were able to pass through the postal defenses quite easily, although there appears to be an effective anti-mail battery operating in the vicinity of San Luis Obispo in California according to Mark Bovankovich, one of our loyal subscribers who twice has not received journals we've sent. This latest disaster was quite damaging in that about thirty fan letters, including at least 15 submitted solutions to AIR POWER Puzzle #1, were lost without a trace. If you wrote us between January and mid-March and were expecting an answer, consider the letter lost. An "SAR" mission has been launched to seek survivors, but little hope remains. With regards to AIR POWER Puzzle #1, we have to nullify that contest to be fair to the guys whose submissions were obliterated. We do have seven submissions in hand, but this is not enough to get a fair sampling. So, we'll pick up and award prizes beginning with Puzzle #2. If you suspect any problems with your subscriptions, please notify us immediately, and we'll be happy to rectify them.
