Letters to the Editor

by the readers

Issue #7 was great! The F-86 data card (whew, finally!) was worth the price of admission. The new format is good and we especially like the idea of a "theme" issue. Again, keep up the good work and you can count on the "Skoshi Tigers" out here being consistent, reliable contributors.

    --Best Regards, Mike Combs

The Skoshi Tigers are a small club of military Air Superiority gamers stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines.

I saw an interesting thing recently in "Aviation Week and Space Technology". The Advanced Tactical Fighter may be cancelled and replaced with an F-15XX At least the Pentagon is vying to get the Air Force to look at cheaper alternatives. Also, ASRAAM is apparently dead, or at least in a coma. This is too bad, I always thought "Ass-Ram" was a hilarious name for a heat-seeking missile. Usually, the people who decide on names have no sense of humor, like when the wouldn't name the MX missile the "Hallmark". (When you care enough to send the very best.)

    --Sincerely, Noel Wright

You're a sick looney, Noel ... sick, sick, sick!

Mr. XXX replies to my column from Issue #8:

Dear J.D.,

I must agree that while I was a subscriber to your newsletter, it was very interesting and fun and I enjoyed it very much. I feel that $10 was a fair price and hoped the letter would expand in subject matter for that price and would hang in there until the quality increased. Now I'm being asked to add two more dollars and you are adding a few more pages.

You're mailing out about 60 [actually 100-120- JD] sheets of paper a year to each person and charging $12. If you're in this to make a profit, then you're on the right track, but if this is way to promote your game and get more people buying and playing it, then you're asking too much.

You said you looked up to "Wargamer" and "Fire and Movement" and hoped to be in that class someday. I hope you achieve that goal and when you do I will be very happy to re-up my subscription.

    -- Sincerely, Mr. XXX

Well, thanks and so long!

I am writing to you because AIR POWER is fantastic! I have all the issues. In Issue #5, you wrote that you and Larry Bond were working on an integration of Harpoon and Air Superiority. I love this idea! Being an avid fan of both, I was toying with a few ideas and would like to show you these. I look forward to all progress in this area. P.S., I also think a WWII air battle system using Air Sup scaled down would be better than AH's Air Force!

    --Sincerely Yours, Warren Nicholson

I am a member of the "Cerde de Strategie", a club for wargamers, mainly French but with a few Belgian and Swiss. My main activity is editing the "Journal du Strategie" every two months. Another activity is translating game rules from English to French. I have translated Air Superiority. I have also written a few articles about Air Sup and Desert Falcons. Last moth at our club meeting, I was appointed responsible for articles, scenarios, and miscellaneous writings about Air Sup. If I write scenarios featuring planes you have published in AIR POWER, may I reproduce and translate these for our journal?

    --Yours Truly, Jean Forget (France)

Dear Jean, permission is granted provided that proper acknowledgement appears in print. P.S., how about some sample copies of "Journal du Strategie" sent across the pond, yes?
