Background: On the 7th of December, two HF-24 Maruts on a ground attack mission near Chor encountered four PAF Sabres on a similar mission. The Sabres split into two pairs with one pairtaking on the Maruts and the other pair continuing on its way. A brief melee ensued in which, at one point, the Marut leader found himself in a head-on pass with a Sabre. Both pilots fired but the Marut's accuracy was better sending the Sabre down in flames. On the 8th and 12th of December two other encounters between pairs of Maruts and flights of Sabres occured, but on these occasions the battles were inconclusive.
