The Speed Of Heat!

Product Update

by J.D. Webster

Progress is going extremely well on "The Speed Of Heat!" (I love that title). By the time you get this issue, the counters should be back from the printers along with the maps and rulebooks. For those of you who haven't kept up with things: "The Speed Of Heat!" is the Korea/Vietnam Air Superiority system game which was originally to be published by GDW as "Gunslingers" and which was called "MiG Killers" before that. Since GDW dropped the AS line, Clash of Arms games has picked up the game system. "The Speed Of Heat!" contains what used to be called the 2d edition Air Superiority rules. The game system is now termed the Air Power system. Confused yet? Okay, suspicious maybe. Now get a load of this. The game is projected to cost $36 buckaroos but man, you will be getting your moneys worth and then some. What follows is a preview.

Counters: 240 standard sized counters but in full color. The aircraft are depicted by line drawings (see right), not chintzy black silhouettes. The drawings have blue canopies, and the aircraft are in period colors. The F-105s are camouflaged! The Panthers are dark blue. MiGs are silver and some are green, etc. Rick Barber did the work on this.

Rules: 72 pages, with illustrations and some examples.

These rules include most everything published beforeinGDW's Air Sup./Air Str. and Desert Falcons games and module as well as some of the stuff seen in this newsletter. These are the 2d edition rules! These are good, well-playtested things.

Scenarios: 51 scenarios as follows: Korean War-- 10, Cold War= 5, Vietnam War= 26, Solitaire Training Scenarios= 6, General Scenarios= 4. Complete historical background and aircraft briefings.
