Background: In the Indo-Pakistani conflicts, neither side ever achieved better than local air superiority (outside of East Pakistan). GCI and observer coverage was relatively unsophisticated on both sides, and Indian numbers did not always make up for Pakistani quality in trying to establish air superiority. This scenario is atypical one in which PAF F-6s attempt to crash the party on a flight of egressing close-support Hunters on the Western front. In this engagement, the IAF claimed three F-6s at the cost of one Hunter. Given the fact that Pakistani sources claim the loss of only one F-6 in air combat, and that loss not to a Hunter, one also can see that factual information concerning much of this war is excruciatingly difficult to come by! Explore the facts for yourself and try this nasty knife-fight! Map: A Game length: 15 game turns. Notes: 1: All aircraft are spotted. Hunters are camouflaged, F-6s are silver. Treat F-6s as 0, Hunters as -1 for initiative purposes. 2. F-6s are Pakistani Mod. Load: 5,6=AIM-9B, 1,4=600L FT. Hunter loads: 1,4=500L FT. 3. Optionals: Pilot Quality: Roll for all pilots on both sides on their respective tables for quality and attributes. Fuel: F-6 start-100, bingo= 50, Hunter start- 75, bingo= 60. Weather: Clear. 4. Victory: To win, either side must down at least one enemy aircraft and have more points overall. 5. Variant: Let the PAF aircraft be either Mirage-Ills or a pair of Sabres and a pair of F-104As. In the latter case put the F-1 04s back 5 hexes at altitude 10 as top cover. All of these aircraft would be carrying 2x AIM-9B IRMs and appropriate FTs.
