Raid On Adampur!

6 September, 1965 Scenario

by Charlie Vousden

Background:

Late in the day, the PAF launched strikes against Indian airfields and radarsto forestall IAF counterattacks. Unfortunately, the PAF did not have enough servicable aircraft to meet its planned requirements and only one raid was successful. This one wasn't it. In this strike against Adampur airfield, three Sabres attempting to make a strafing attack ran into a combat air patrol of four Hunters.

A dogfight ensued at low altitude in which the lead Sabre, piloted by Squadron Leader Mohammed Alam, shot down one Hunter and probably destroyed another. One of the other Sabres damaged a third Hunter. They then escaped without damage. The Hunter patrol had taken a beating but had succeeded in stopping the attack on the airfield and thus claimed a Pyrrhic victory.
