Letters to the Editor

by the readers

I would like to see more reviews of *other' air games. JD brags that he has almost every air game made, but how good are they? I'm sure people would like to know. P.S. How come there weren't any West Coast playtesters for 2nd edition Air Superiority?

A loyal fan of flying, Eliot "Wired" Kiang! California

Dear Eliot, I'll have Tony print some reviews just as soon as some contributors send us some. Mark Bovankovich from San Luis Obispo, whose address was printed in issue #6 as a playtest advisor, ended up heading a large group of playtesters. In general, however, we find most Californians' opinions to be on shaky ground ... (hee, hee, good pun, eh?).

Everyone involved should be very proud of your excellent publication, but please don't be tempted to move away from Air Superiority into other game systems!

Sincerely, Stephen Loughrey, Australia.

JD, JD, JD I think putting names on Sidewinders is kind of passe. Personally, I usually mark mine 'Occupant'-it usually gets to the right address in the sky...

All the Best! Keith Stibbe, Canada

Dear Keith, you're right, by golly. Okay, you guys...no more painting S-T-I-B-B-E on AIM-9s, paint it on your AMRAMMs.

A British magazine, "Games International', recently published an article reviewing air games of all periods. You might like to know that Air Superiority was the only game that was given the magazine's top 5-star rating. This is an even bigger compliment, to my mind, than it sounds, because British reviewers are more likely to be miniatures oriented. In fact, Mr. Brimmicombe-Wood, the author, is obviously so inclined as he gave the second place rating to a miniatures system in which aircraft can't even turn.

All the best, Phillip Atcliffe, United Kingdom.

Dear JD, As you hold yet another wad of vitriol in your grubby mitts, suffice to say that we, 'The Aerial Victory Aces of London and All Nice Chaps Eastward" (AVALANCHE), earnestly hope that the problems surrounding the publication of the Air Superlority 2nd edition rules can be solved.

I'm afraid that I have to confirm that I really am a MiG 'groupie'. I have a special fondness for the MIG-17 and will take it up against anyone or anything, regardless of the odds. I can't think of anything more enjoyable than taking crummy Yank wonderplanes apart with my even crummier MIG. It's a brilliant way to wind people up.

Toodle Pip! Lee 'Pipsqueak' BrimmicombeWood, London

Dear Lee, I believe you've been spending too much time in that 'TOG" over there. If you ever make it over here, I challenge your MiG- 17 to a duel against my new favorite wonderplane, the A-111 Skyraider, appearing in "Gunslingers".
