"Psycho" Speaks!

To JD and Tony:

I'd like to thank you guys for printing some of my revisions on the latest issue of the Air Power. And the issue, although two months late, was just great - I especially like the expanded damage table. However, there was one minor printing mistake in my revision - the Twin 30mm cannon is for Su-25 Frogfoot, not MG-27; MiG-27 should keep the original 23mm Gatling gun. Thanks also for answering my questions about the radar-raging. I still don't have the answer to the questions regarding the external stores, but I assume those will be answered in the upcoming (and long awaited) 2nd edition Air Superiority. I can't wait!

Thanks again, Tsuyoshi Kawahito

I wondered if you intended on producing any data cards for WWII planes. I realize this may cause difficulties in acceleration and other scales, but I would promote the use of 1/8 and 1/4 pt. units to accommodate these aircraft.

Sincerely, David Runowski

Dave, similar questions have popped up in several letters. The Vietnam game coming out in November (I hope), includes a card for the A-1 Skyraider. However, is so limited in movement and ability at the Air Superiority scale, that I am loathe to do any other prop planes even though in Korea, Mustangs and Corsairs tangled with MiG's and the historical precedent exists. Prop fighters (and helos) are just better simulated at a different time/distance scale. I think using more fractions on cards would not be doing the game system any favors either.

Has the Soviet AA-8B ever been introduced, and were any sold to Iraq? Would the Iraqis have the AA-11? Were the French ever foolish enough to sell Magis-II's and Super-Matras to the Iraqis?

Sincerely, Noel Wright.

(We got this letter before Iraq invaded Kuwait. Noel must've known something we didn't!) The AA-8B was my 1987 guess as to what the Soviets would likely accomplish in missile technology. To the best of my knowledge, an allangle Aphid has not appeared. Instead they produced the AA-11 fisted in AP#3. The AA-11 has not been exported.

The French sold Super-Matra 530's to Iraq for use on their FI's during the Iran/lraq war and have also sold Magics.

Whether they sold Magics-II's or -I's is unknown, but most likely just Magics-I's.

Issue #9 is GREATI I can't wait to try out the new damage tables. With respect to "Psycho's Revisions", what's a Tornado ADV? Where do I find the Vatour, IL-28 and TU-16? Have I gone blind and missed all these? Please forgive my semiignorance and help me out.

Mike "Spectre" Soulier One Crazy Canucki

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey... you ignorant sled-dog molester you!!! The ADV refers to the F.2 and F.3 Air Defense Variants of the Tornado. The other jets appeared in issue #9 of the now apparently defunct BATTLEPLAN magazine. Don't worry as we will probably redo those in AIR POWER someday.

The Hawk-100 variant with wingtip IRM launchers that I told you about in AP#6 has been designated the Hawk-102. The Tip stations are likely to become standard on all future export Hawks. The Hawk-205 is the single seat, radar equipped 200 with wingtip IRM launchers.

Yours faithfully, Phillip Atcliffe; United Kingdom

We are the latest recruits in the Canadian contingent of Air Sup. pilots. Be warned!! We will soon be masters of the arcane and brutally effective Canadian tactics that have sent so many Eagles on a quick trip down to Terra Firma. We are being well trained and expect to be at the next ORIGINS, so, Check Six, Yanks!

Dave Larstone 'Coft" and Chris Barker 'C.B.'

Geez, let their countrymen win a few tourneys and all of Canada get a big head. Just remember you guys, revenge is Sweet.
