I am writing this just before I leave for two weeks holiday, and whilst debating the single most important question - which books to pack? Honestly, the way my wife carries on during the couple of weeks leading up to going away, you would think it was difficult. Lists of clothes to take, lists of children's clothes to take, lists of make-up to take etc etc. What's wrong with an extra pair of strides, five pairs of socks, five t-shirts etc. - it only takes about five minutes to pack and you're away. This is about the only time of year that I can honestly say I enjoy working, since I don't have to entertain my four daughters during the long school holidays. I don't mind making suggestions, provided that Frances is the one that has to take them to the beach or for walks. Just so long as they're tired when I get home in the evening. Anyway, to the most important question for me - I think it has to be Paddy Griffith's Oman IX and John Lynn's 'Giant of the Grand Siecle'. Don't forget the sunscreen!
