by Rene Chartrand and Gerry Embleton. A thoroughly delightful title on a subject which is all too frequently overshadowed by operations in Europe. The War of 1812 is already covered in general terms by Philip Katcher in MAA 226 and the present volume concentrates on Canadian units. As usual Rene Chartrand's text is authoritative and complemented by a very useful selection of lesser known black and white illustrations. Gerry Embleton's plates are equally attractive and a fine example of what he can produce when the subject genuinely interests him. On the whole there is perhaps nothing startlingly new but it is all very nicely presented and the only regret really is that the 15,000 words, allotted by Osprey are insufficient to do the subject justice. A much larger and more comprehensive study would be very welcome.
