Sappers (Sapeurs du Genie)

The Sappers were created 16 July 1810, disbanded in 1814 and reformed 8 April 1815. Initially the unit consisted of just one company of one capitaine, one lieutenant, one sous-lieutenant, one sergeant-major, four sergeants, one fourrier, eight brigadier-soldats, six ouvriers (craftsmen), thirty-two sapeurs 1st class, seventy-two sapeurs 2nd class, ten drivers, and two tambours. The company was divided into two divisions, each commanded by a lieutenant. In 1813 a second company was formed and in 1814 the Sapeurs were organised into a battalion of four companies, totalling 615 men. The re-formed company of Genie de la Garde of 1815 included a squad of miners and numbered 125 men.

Pontonniers

Raised in April 1808, the pontoon unit was attached to the artillery. The company of Ouvriers-pontonniers consisted of four officers, six NCOs, four craftsmen (Maitre Ouvriers Brigadiers), twenty pontonniers 1st class, twenty-four ouvriers, two tambours, and twentyfour apprentices.

Formed on 15 April 1806, the unit consisted of one battalion with six companies. The battalion staff numbered eight. Each company comprised one Lieutenant, one Sous-lieutenant, one Marechaldes-logischief, four Marechaux-des-logis, one Fourrier, five Brigadiers, sixty-six soldats, two Marechaux-ferrants, two Bourreliers ou batiers, and two trompettes.
