Long term readers of Empires, Eagles and Lions will be aware that Mike
Gilbert (one of their main men) has previously made nice comments about
NN&Q. In EEL #6, Mike comments on the re-launched Age of Napoleon and
although admittedly he doesn't go overboard, 'it's by far the best of the batch.
Yeah, really recommended'. On behalf of all our contributors I have written to
Mike thanking him. In turn, I would like to thank you all, readers and
contributors alike, for the support you have given the magazine.
In a recent 'Dusty Archive', Paul Chamberlain gave us some information
both on books being republished, and on new works. One title missing from the
list is probably my favourite book on the short, dead, French dude, 'Napoleon,
Bisexual Emperor'. This was written by Major-General Frank Richardson MD,
and published by William Kimber in 1972. I don't think that I have ever seen it
cited in a Napoleon biography, and indeed it is not included in 'Napoleonic
Military History: A Bibliography'. There does not seem to have been more than
the original printing, but perhaps in these more enlightened times a work on the
Emperor's sexual proclivities could now find a larger market. Any takers?
