27. British Army White Fatigue Jackets

by Stuart Reid

By the 1840s at least Highland Regiments had white collars and cuffs to their fatigue jackets irrespective of the facing colours worn on their red coats. Was this also the case in the Napoleonic period?

A fairly well known Atkinson print shows yellow facings on the white linen jackets issued to recruits but it does not seem clear whether this was also the case with the tailless woollen fatigue jackets.
