Editorial

by Hawk Norton

Welcome to the latest addition to the Partizan Press series of historical magazines. Napoleonic Notes & Queries will cover in the main the French Revolutionary Wars; The Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, but any military conflict around during the same period and the 1820's will also be looked at.

This magazine will cover most aspects of this period, though by far the main emphasis will be on those concerning the military and Navy. Like English Civil War Notes & Queries, there will be some emphasis on details of use to the re-enactor, for each issue of the magazine is being bought by the Napoleonic Association and sent free to every member, but such pieces will also be of interest to the Modeller and Wargamer.

We hope to have the usual mix of uniform and equipment details, campaign histories, military analysis and 'Terribly Obscure Battle' reports so popular in our other two magazines.

As ever, the balance of subjects is up to you, the readers, as you will be the authors and artists of everything that appears.

Our aim is to encourage new talent and new research. The various styles and formats in the sections within the magazine are designed to make it easy to contribute - from a brief note accompanying an interesting piece of eye-witness accounts to a full blown series on your life's work; from a small sketch or cartoon to a detailed uniform study of an obscure unit.

Our thanks to the contributors to this first issue, in particular Ralph Mitchard for his illustrations, and to David Chandler for his support. Our thanks also to John Henderson, the editor of the Napoleonic Association's Journal, even though he made the Journal a bloody hard act to follow! Perhaps we shall see his hand at work again.
