Alea

By Jaime De Miguel

The Spanish wargames magazine ALEA has just released issue n§ 27 (the last one was six or seven months ago, and the one before something like two years ago!!)

This issue brings a new scenario of the "No pasaran" boardgame series (author Enric Marti), called "La quinta del biberon. La ofensiva del Segre Mayo 1938" with a double page coloured map and the usual counters with the Osprey pictures on them. Haven't played yet and I hope to find sometime during this long and warm summer. OOB seems to be useful for everybody specially figures players. I have to verify sources being the main ones the Mezquida and Martinez Bande books.

Other articles in the issue (almost all by Enric MartĄ) are a review of the boardgame "Bizkaya 1937" by our old friend Carlos A. Perez (publisher of the now dissapeared SCW newsletter "El Miliciano"). This game was published in issue n§ 26 of ALEA, but the map is being included again in this new issue to save n§ 26 cover (it was printed there).

Also there's an article by Carlos A. Perez on the Vizcaya offensive, which should have been published in issue n§ 26 alongside his game.

A review by Enric of SCW "No pasaran" figures rules (not the same as the boardgame by ALEA)which were published by the french glossy magazine "VAE VICTIS" n§ 20, 21 and 27 (currently bimonthly issue is thirty something). The opinion on these rules are quite vitriolic, even saying that there are too many coincidences with the "No pasaran rules" due to the appearance of a PZII in the charts, although this was a free "what if" situation included by the Spanish authors, and "negligence" in the French research...He also says that it is like playing "Risk". I think that ALEA is going a bit too far with their opinions. Still i haven't played this rules as I stick to CDIII, but I liked very much the photos on VV.

Finally a page dedicated to "SCW basic books", this time phocusing on the international brigades, classified as "republican authors", "nationalist authors" and "neutrals" (among the "nationalist" Enric MartĄ classifies Cecil Eby's "North American volunteers in the SCW" aand Cesar Vidal "Las Brigadas Internacionales" !!!!!

And some further news: the boardgame " CTV Guadalajara 1937" is announced to be released soon. Although we never know when is that.
