Abanderado Vol. 3 No. 4

Large Cover (slow: 82K)

From Chris Brooks:

Regarding the photograph on the front cover of this issue. Several years ago I interviewed Frank Edward Alexander, an African American volunteer. During the course of the interview we spoke about his service in Spain and his activities as a Section Leader. He mentioned that the men in the photograph were from his section (Mac-Paps, MG Co). The men were primarily Finns from Canada. Alexanders section was wiped out at Teruel when the were caught by long range MG fire from the Nationalist lines. Alexander escaped physical injury but basically went into shock for several days.

Again this is oral history and should be cited as such but it is an interesting item.
