Welcome to issue 2/2 and a happy new year to all readers. My new year's resolution is to resolve the spelling errors of earlier issues. Of course we hope that the new year will provide us with lots of new information and items of interest, and the signs are looking good already with a couple of excellent books to start with.

Back to earlier issues regarding the issues and nature of the war in Spain and the general conditions prevailing then and now. I recommend reading Spanish Hours by Simon Courtauld, Libri Mindi 1996 hardback £ 16.95. A book which analyses the heart of Spain and its people. It looks at what matters in Spanish life, and covers the forces that led to the civil war and the memories since. Part memoir, part travelogue, the book is a charming idiosyncratic account of modern Spain.
