The Current SITREP: GI, HMGS, Military and WARGAMING: I am now completing my final edit of Old Glory's Santa Anna Rules tm (SAR) Warfare in Mexico, 1820-1870. SAR is TWO systems in one and extensive historical and scenario data. (see Article this issue) Buck Surdu designed the Santa Anna Tactical (SAT) section with a 1:20 figure scale, and I designed the Santa Anna Skirmish (SAS) portion. Our "PLAYTEST-VERSION" was released at Cold Wars '98. I will be posting Santa Anna Rules tm SAS in the next edition of the AAR [minus Buck's portion]. Our final version along with a couple supplements will be on the market for Historicon (available through Old Glory). I am currently an exhausted HMGS-GAMEMASTER with a great team of GI-Game-Masters producing the Little Big Horn Game (1:1 scale, four 6'x10' tables, 1,500 25mm figures, 20 players) with Old Glory Warpaint Figures (my own Crazy Horse Rules) which won a Best of Show Award at the HMGS Fall-In Convention. At HMGS COLD WARS I Game-Mastered THREE consecutive games of THE ALAMO (8'x10' table, 1:1 scale, 2,000 25mm figures, 16 players) with Old Glory Alamo Figures and our new SANTA ANNA RULES tm. I was told we won a best of Show, but nothing officially yet. I will be running BOTH Little Big Horn AND ALAMO at:
East Coast Game Fair, 3 MAY'98 NASHCON, 22 MAY'98 Origins, Columbus OH, 2-5 JUL'98 HistoriCon, Lancaster, PA 21 JUL'98 I will be a wasted war-puppy when it's over, but pleas, DO COME on out TO ONE OF THESE! ALSO: I'm directing the HMGS Origins Team ["HOT" ] for HMGS and Andon. (see article this issue) We had 100 HMGS games last year, 200 this year, a far cry from the slim pickin's we had back in 96. I will hand that package over to HMGS Great Lakes Chapter for next year. and finally .... Waterloo 1999 I am directing "Waterloo 1999" which will be a one-game convention with 100 players (like Borodino 1992.) 25mm, 1:25 fig-scale, 1'=25m, using V&B[T] (Volley and Bayonet Tactical) Old Glory is sponsoring this Battle of Waterloo for me to eventually take on the ROAD to all the HMGS CHAPTERS. (some day?) The Preliminary Game is Ligny Columbus Day Weekend, OCT'98. Meanwhile I also got an Army career to feed. I pinned on MAJOR on 31 March. I am enjoying teaching at USMAPS, Fort Monmouth, NJ at the Jersey Shore, good proximity to NYC. Come out and wargame some time! My USMA Prep Wargame Club is running a HUGE VIETNAM Campaign this spring, Followed by a BIG CRETE INVASION and we're going to POINTCON, and Gettysburg in April, Game Faire in May. Please, Email me with your input, comments and anything else you'd like to submit.
