Mogadishu

West Point Scenario

by Pete Panzeri

I run MOGADISHU with a 1:1 figure scale, so the OB will show you how many for the whole battle. You can get the same effect by going 1:2, but then you may not be able to put a name on every Ranger figure! Or you could do just one of many smaller parts of the battle:

1. Initial Delta Team Assault/Snatch
2. Medal of Honor Scenario -- Delta Snipers at Black Hawk Crash site #2.
3. "Escape Scenario" Evacuation of _____
4. "Main Convoy Ambush" of Ranger Extraction Convoy
5. "2nd Ambush" 1st Ranger Relief Convoy
6. "Escape Scenario" of combined Extraction/Relief Convoys
7. "Alamo Scenario" -- Ranger/Delta Teams at Black Hawk Crash site #1.
8. Armored Relief Force to relieve rangers/Delta at Crash site #1.

At times I pre-programmed the 1st two Helo crash sites into the scenario, but did not tell the players where until they found it. Other times I simply said, "Bird went down, you don't know where yet." When running the game with my students in class, I used an overhead-video camera, and only let the General in charge watch from above. He had to direct the guys on the ground by radio, and only he could see where the crash sites were. (This is sort of how it happened, as the CinC was watching from his CP on video.)
