Kadesh AAR

Egyptian vs. Hittite Wargame

from Pete Panzeri

We had a great battle of KADESH. Estimated to have been fought in the 13th Century BC, Kadesh is famous as the first major battle in History for which we have a secular military battle account and order of battle for. (unless you take the Orders of Battle and accounts from Biblical sources.)

Pete played Hittite King Mutawallis and went Head-to-Head with Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses played by Van Siegling.

The Hittite main Chariot Corps lead by Pete-awallis spent most of the battle methodically attacking and one isolated Egyptian Corps (The "Pharaoh's Phinest") and trying to get through the Pharaoh Guard to the man himself, (and to LOOT the Pharaoh's camp!). The Pharaoh was assaulted from all sides, and led numerous forays out of his fortified camp to halt the attacks, and consolidate his forces.

Hittite Noble Wayne-awallis was an early casualty, and was lost just as Alex in Charge of the "Sun Corps" arrived to reinforce the beleaguered Pharaoh (but were delayed 2 miles away by Amalekite light camelry -- those Pesky Amelkites).

As it was the screening Amalekites were only able to buy a little time for the Pharaoh, but it was enough time. The Pharaoh's Chariot Corps broke out of the camp and was able to assemble on the Plains of Kadesh, facing Mutawallis's Hittite Chariot Corps. But both sides held each other in check rather than commit to a headlong crash of Royal chariot-ware. Neither side wanted to risk severe attrition to their striking arm.

In the end, it turned out like the historical battle. Both sides took unacceptable losses, and neither side was able to exact a decisive outcome.
