Follow up to an article in Dec 2001 GI Newsletter FWIW, here is my take on where to point a 14 year old for DBM. IIRC patience is not the typical 14 yr old's strong suit so armies that rely on patient play and elaborate maneuver are 'right out'. So I would exclude EIR, Mongols etc. I would look toward armies with lots of irregulars, preferably Superior irregulars. Medieval French is a good choice. Another intriguing one is Middle Frankish-lots of superior warband plus a few fast knights.... you have to chain the entire army to a tree to keep it from going berserk. Romanian Franks and Later Serbs are similarly interesting with their Irr(S) knights. Another interesting army is the Ottoman Turk. Using the Serbian ally with Irreg (S) Kn gives it punch while it also has a mix of Bow(S)and various light troops. I used a Rus army for several years and had a lot of fun.
