Yates' Custer Collection

Up for Auction this March

From Jemison Beshears

Butterfields Auction House has been contracted to sell the George Yates estate. The collection consists of Yates' military archive including many promotional documents, correspondence [including that with Custer], photographs and personal items owned and used by Yates during the Civil and Indian Wars [including a rare Hawken bowie knife]. Also included are books from the library of Annie Yates who attended many of the early Custer reunions. This material sat in an attic in New Jersey for over 85 years, ignored by relatives until recently. It has never been perused by any historians that I am aware of, and as a Custerphile myself, there is much valuable and revealing information in this collection. If you would like more information feel free to call me at 415-503-3327.
