"Brooklyn Confederate" Travels South
by Charley Elsden

Just had a great time at the East Coast show at Farleigh-Dickinson University in NJ--it has the same dealer space area as Historicon, but all 54mm stuff (YES). CTS has a new Churchill tank out. I just wrote up an invitation to all for Borodino 2002 in my next MWAN column "Those Fightin' Fifty-Fours."

I took a great 4 day vacation down to Richmond, Virginia (Jefferson Hotel). Wow, when you get south of DC, there's nothing there along the AMTRAK line but Wilderness. And even a hundred years after the Civil War, the train service rapidly disintegrates the further south you go (or so I'm told).

Toured Richmond a bit, and Petersburg with a pretty private guide. Saw a Vandenburg Volley gun, the emplaced mortar Dictator, and George Thomas' HQ wagon, among many other things in various museums. The Tredegar Iron Works is now run by the National Park Service (I'm a former student intern Ranger; Statue of Liberty National Monument) and has nice computerized battle displays of the McCllellan and Grant battles.

Who says Sports and Wargaming Don't Mix?
From Pete English This was just sent to me when the question came up on one of the Diamondbacks was a wargamer (my favorite hobby), it is no less than: Curt Schilling - the man who bought the rights to and now publishes Advanced Squad Leader and its modules, in addition to other wargames - see www.multimanpublishing.com
