Custer Battlefield Preservation Committee

Great News on Land

from Jim Court

The Custer Battlefield Preservation Committee has reached its goal and will finalize payment on all lands currently under Option To Buy before the end of 2001. Our 'Anonymous Donor' has agreed to pay off the remaining indebtedness. Three cheers for our Anonymous Donor.

Any money remaining or any money received in 2002 will be placed in an account to provide for payment of taxes, administrative expenses into the future.

Plans for CBPC's future are unclear at the moment. We are attempting to secure a permanent easement through several parcels of Indian Land which will guarantee access to LIFETIME MEMBERS of CBPC. Affected land includes access to Reno's 2nd Crossing and Retreat to the Bluffs as well as the Crow's Nest. There is an additional parcel or two that might be available in the future. We'll keep you poasted.

For the moment, at least, we are not asking for money and members will not receive any more solicitations. A final newsletter and map will be sent out early in 2002.

Persons wishing to become Lifetime Members may still do so by sending $100 per person to CBPC, PO Box 310, Hardin, MT 59034.

My personal thanks to all the members of CBHMA, LBHA and OIW who have contributed during the past 20 years.

Garryowen.
