1. 15th Annual SYWA Convention will be held in South Bend, Indiana on Friday March 27th and Saturday March 28th, 1998 at the Holiday Inn Downtown. Pau1 Petri and Brian Vizek are the men on horseback who are organizing this coming years convention. Once again we are fortunate to have Christopher Duffy as one of our guests of honor to discuss topics to be determined. Perhaps be will continue to explore some of those rare moments in 18th Century military history when the soldiers in white coats, or "good guys" win a battle. Last year your editor and noted Prussophile had to end the agony of Maxen, in what was a very informative presentation on a little-understood battle.

Our other guest of honor will be Brian Leigh Dunnigan, curator of maps at the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. Brian was formerly the curator of Fort Niagara and has a special expertise in the French & Indian War. As with last year's convention, gaming will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, to allow us to take advantage of the hall for the full day. So mark your calendars and look for more information about the convention in the next issue of the Journal.

2. Second Annual Tricon Convention: Byron Champlin reports that the flrst Tricon Convention, held last Novemba, was so suecessful that he and his team are going to host it again, this time on October 25 and 26, 1997 in Concord, Massachusetts. Tricon is devoted exclusively to 18th Century wargaming, running from Marlborough up through the French Revolution, and all periods in between. Last year's event attracted over 100 attendees and nurnerous dealers and featured wargames, historical lectures and presentations, and a Sunday tour of the Lexington & Concord Battlefield, led by park ranger, historian and wargamer Mark Nichipor. Byron advises that Mark is planning another tour, possibly of Bunker Hill. For more information, write to Byron at 154 Rumford Street, Concord, NH 03301.

3. Christopher Duffy Tour of Silesia 1998: We are fortunate that Christopher Duffy is planning another tour of Frederician battlefields, this time in Silesia (Poland). The tour is tentatively scheduled for the Spring of 1998, probably in mid-May for 2 weeks. There is no definitive news as yet, but I expect to post plans, costs, etc in the next issue of the Joumal and on our web page.

Likely sites to visit include Leuthen, Hohenfriedberg, Kunersdorf (and maybe Zorndorf), Liegnitz and others. This is just a rough cost estimate, but figure on about $800.00 for airfare and $1,500 to $2,000 for the tour, which last time inc1uded lodging, meals and bus transportation. Again, look for information on how to sign up for the tour in the next issue of the Journal.

4. Magweb On-line Wargame Magazines: Russ Lockwood has put over 30 wargaming and historical publications on the intemet at his Magweb page. The idea is that you can access current and back issues of such publications as the SYWA Journal, The American Revolution Journal, MWAN, Courier, Napoleon, First Empire and many others via the internet.. One low membership fee allows password access to all magazines in MagWeb. Details and free sample articles are available at http://www.magweb.com. This is a great idea that deserves your investigation.
