In the course of researching and painting wargame units for the British contingent during the WAS, I have found myself confused and perplexed by the ever-changing names of the various infantry and cavalry regiments. Particularly so the cavalry, since regimental names were changed mid-war and are often refered to by the regimental name as well as the colonel's name. I hope that the following table will be of help to others and to save them a lot of time and research. Essentially, there were two types of cavalry: 8 heavy cavalry or Regiments of Horse and 8 regiments of Dragoons. In 1746, three of the first four Horse regiments were renamed Dragoon Guards and the remaining Horse were renumbered 1 through 4.
