SYWA Regional News: Midwest USA

By Jim Purky

1. The 10th SYWA Midwest Meet will be held March 1920, 1993 at the Holiday Inn in South Harvey, Illinois. The location in the south suburbs of Chicago is convenient for most members who live in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio and should not be missed. For most of us, this is the best wargame convention of the year given its casual, friendly atmosphere and numerous quality wargame events. Brian Vizek and Paul Petri report that the game room and banquet hall have already been reserved and they will provide us with further details in the December issue of the SYWA Journal. These lads deserve a "Te Deum" for their efforts in getting the convention established so soon. Prospective dealers and game judges can call Brian at (414)6575078 for more information.

2. The 4th Annual Leuthen Day Wargame will be held at the Emperor's Headquarters in Chicago on Saturday December5, 1992 from noon to about 7 P.M. Last year's game saw the Austrians, commanded by Marshal Daun, avenge two previous defeats as they administered a sound thrashing of the Prussians at Kolin. This year's game will feature a new set of rules designed to speed up the play and to acheive a definitive outcome in the allotted time. Furthermore, the scenario is designed to ensure that all 24 players are in the thick of the action from the very beginning. The Austrians and Russians are seeking to extend their win streak to two, so if you fancy tweaking "Old Fritz's" nose or wish to bash a few Austrians, then contact the editor for a reservation in the game.
