1. In my frequent bouts of surfing the Internet for information, I have come across the following sites that may be of interest to wargamers and military historians of the 18th century: http://www.philmac.demon.co.uk/ - First, of course, is Phil Mackie's wonderful web site! Say no more. Our man in England has done more than I can say for the popularization of both the era and the Journal itself! http://www.kuk-wehrmacht.de/ - This German Language site is dedicated to Austrian military history. It gives information about battles, personalities, and uniforms and includes an extensive treatment of the battle of Parma in 1734 during the War of the Polish Succession, http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/ - A companion page to the above, this site gives similar information on the Prussian army. It is also a German language site primarily. By all means, don't forget to visit. http://www.grossergeneralstab.de/sturm/sturm1.html page that leads you to scans of the famous "Sturm" cigarette cards. http://www.zum.de/whkmla/military/18cen/18cenindex.html - World History at KMLA has this handy page covering all the wars of the 18th century and is worth a look. The narratives provide good summaries of the events of the various conflicts. http://vial.jean.free.fr/new_npi/ - Jean Vial's superb "Nec Pluribus Impar" website offers information in French, and increasingly in English, on French military history of the 17th and 18th centuries. This is a very important site with a wealth of flag and uniform plates and should not be missed. http://www.chez.com/praetiritifides/ - Of equal significance is this French and English language site that contains a wealth of primary source material on the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War. It also contains useful maps and orders of battle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalfeldmarschall - Here's a useful site that I stumbled across. It contains lists of various German and Austrian fieldmarshals throughout history, Some of them have brief biographies appended to them, but the majority do not, although this can be remedied, as Wikipedia allows users to supply the missing information. http://syw2.tripod.com/links.html - Martin Tomczak as put up this collection of links to various useful pages with a concentration on the era of the Seven Years War. http://grebenstein.topcities.com/landgrafen.htm - This German language only site is for the obsessed Germanophile. It contains biographies of all the Landgrafs of Hessen-Cassel along with numerous illustrations. http://www.heimatkreis-kesselsdorf.de/schlacht.htm - Another German language site, this is concerned with the battle of Kesselsdorf specifically as well as events leading up to it. It has numerous images including the Old Dessauer, Maria Theresa, Frederick, etc. http://www.americanrevolution.org/home.html - For Revolutionary War enthusiasts, this is a good place to start. It includes numerous links to other web sites devoted to this popular era. http://gallica.bnf.fr/ - Home page of the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, this site continues to get better as those wonderful French continue their massive project of scanning books into pdf files and making them available on-line - for free even! This is a very cool thing and a boon to those of us who do research but don't have direct access to the library itself Only catch is the fact that most of their texts are in French. Oh well, what better time to start learning! http://www.militaryheritage.com/7yrswar.htm - This commercial site contains useful information on the Seven Years War. http://members.cox.net/johnahamill/sevenyears.html - This is a part of "John's Military History Page" and has quite an extensive amount of information on the Seven Years War. http://www3.sympatico.ca/donald.macleod2/history.html - By the author of "The Canadian Iroquois and the Seven Years War," this site has an abundance of information related to that subject. http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~dpohara/index.html - Danny O'Hara's site has a wide variety of content including information on the Swedish during the Seven Years War.
