Product Review By James J. Mitchell
Stephen Manly of Potsdam Flags & Publications recently sent me his latest publication in his Wargamer's Guide series on the War of the Austrian Succession. This fine plastic comb-bound booklet covers naval warfare from 1739 to 1748. It is lavishly illustrated with many black and white pictures that include naval ensigns for the powers of Denmark, France, Genoa, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Piedmont-Sardinia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the Two Sicilies, and the Barbary States. In addition, each section covers the navies of the above combattants including lists of ships, details of the warships, biographies of the commanders, and naval formations employed. These naval formations comprise orders of battle of various sailing expeditions during the time period and should save the wargamer and/or historian countless hours of research. The good quality illustrations also include pictures of various types of ships and naval actions as well as several useful maps. There is also a handy glossery of naval warfare terms and a select bibliography featured at the end of the booklet. The booklet retails from Potsdam Flags & Publications for £6.99 + 80 pence postage and packaging or 10 Euros plus 2 Euros postage and packing. It is also available from On Military Matters, whose ad appears elsewhere in this Journal. Stephen adds that members of the Association who order directly from Potsdam Flags & Publications are entitled to a 10% discount. Their address is: Potsdam Flags & Publications 1 Aintree Avenue Eckington Derbyshire S21 4JA Tel +44 1246 434 441 Potsdaml807@supanet.coin This booklet would be a fine addition to any library, containing as it does so much useful information. Mr. Manley is to be complemented on the six years of research that went into putting this publication together. Back to Seven Years War Asso.
