Aquilifer 15mm Miniatures

Lace Wars

Product Review By James J. Mitchell

I was recently sent some samples and color photographs (see color section) of a new line of 15 millimeter Lace Wars figures by an Italian company named "Aquilifer." I will repeat the gist of the text of the cover letter that was included:

"The "Aquilifer" is a very young firm made up of young people who, sharing a great passion for history, military modeling, and wargames, came to believe in the idea of placing some innovative and competitive products at the disposal of all afficionados. Our passion is the same of any collector or wargamer and our miniatures have been conceived and realized to satisfy the most exacting customers. The result of careful historical and uniformological study, the figures are modeled with great precision and cast from silver prototypes that were the result of two years of work. Breaking from the traditional idea of static figures, they are offered in a wide variety of poses.

Moreover, the "Aquilifer" decided to introduce itself with a line of figures from the 1700's. Offering a line of high quality products, the "Aquilifer" hopes to contribute to the spread of interest in this historical period. The entire line of the 1700's is composed of around 800 poses and more than 100 horse poses (guaranteeing, with many combinations of rider and horse, a huge variety that moves 15 millimeter figures a little closer to the realism of the larger scales."

Their catalogue so far includes the armies of Prussia and Austria. The prices are .40 Euros per infantry figure, .60 Euros per personality figure, 1.20 Euros for personality figure with horse, .85 Euros for mounted figure with horse, 1.20 Euros for a cannon, 2 Euros for a limber with 2 horses, and 2.5 Euros for a limber with 4 horses. They also have infantry brigade packs of four 12-figure battalions, two light batteries, one medium/heavy battery, and two mounted officers for 28 Euros. There is also an infantry division of eight 12-figure battalions, four light batteries, two medium/heavy batteries, and seven mounted command and/or staff figures for 56 Euros. At the time of this review, I didn't see any cavalry brigades listed yet.

The figures are attractive. They are about the size of "Freikorps" 15's, but have the animation of "Old Glory" figures. The address is:
