Time to Renew Yes indeed, the time has finally come for us to dig deep into our poor impoverished pockets and get ready to renew. Seriously, I hope that I have been giving the membership their money's worth. I have been able to stay within budget, so the good news is that the subscription rate will remain the same at $30.00 for four issues. Oh, and by the way, there is no bad news. The 19th annual Seven Years War Association convention was held on March 22°d and 23'd in beautiful downtown South Bend, and by the looks of things, everyone seems to have had a good time. This year, the Pour le Merite award, initiated by member George Rust last year, was given to two of our members for putting on outstanding games: these were none other than former editor Jim Purky and Jude Becker. Last year's recipient, Dean West, who was charged with giving out the award this year, said that he was unable to decide which game was better, so he has established a new precedent by declaring a tie! Concerning This Issue Although it has taken quite a while to get it together, I hope that this issue has a little something to excite the interests of everyone in the membership. We have something on the French, the Swedes, the Hessians, the French and Indian War, and, last but not least, more of Horace St. Paul's intriguing description of the war against Frederick the Great from an Austrian perspective. Member Ralph Morrison has also written us a couple of pieces inspired by this year's Duffy Tour. You will find one of his articles in the regular part of the Journal, and the other as a letter in the Newsletter portion towards the end. All the Best. Back to Seven Years War Asso.
