This is a beautifully presented, colourful and very pretty little book. A delight to read it details the lives of Napoleon and Josephine – their courtship, passionate and somewhat tempestuous love affair. So well written that the reader becomes totally immersed in the lives of the Emperor and Empress. Her hardship in prison during the Terror, their marriage, the homes in which they lived, places they visited, where they dined, through to the coronation, the good and hard times they shared through to their deaths and final resting places. The book includes some excellent quotes, which really bring it alive. It is well researched with good colour and black and white illustrations. The maps of the four walks are in colour, well laid out, easy to follow and at the end of each section directions are given from one stop to another. For anyone interested in the Napoleonic era this is an essential guide book, but I’m sure it would appeal equally to anyone interested in history who visits Paris as the walks guide the reader to some of the most beautiful and important places of interest. Highly recommended. Back to Table of Contents -- First Empire # 76 Back to First Empire List of Issues Back to MagWeb Master Magazine List © Copyright 2004 by First Empire.
