Anhalt Jäger zu Pferd, 1813

The small German state of Anhalt became a member of the Confederation of the Rhine in 1807. Almost im-mediately Napoleon demanded that Anhalt should contribute a contingent of troops for the growing ‘Rheinbund’. Subsequently, the three minor Anhalt duchies, Anhalt-Dessau, Anhalt-Koethen and Anhalt-Bernburg raised an infantry battalion of around 800 men, these formed the 1st Battalion of the 5th Rheinbund regiment.

The uniform depicted is basically the same as the French line Chasseurs, although in it's short existence it would seem doubtful that the regiment was able to conform to it's regulation dress. A captain checks a map, pipe in hand while a mounted trooper in campaign dress looks on.
